“Hot Chocolate Cruise for 2009!”

Anyone for Cocoa?                                         There was some snow

Us Minnieweather’s (myself and Rob Jr.) got to start out pretty early that Sunday morning, because we had to get the car thawed out before we could head over to the meeting place for this event! We got to the Puyallup Krispy Kreme at the South Hill Mall in plenty of time, in fact Rob and I were the second folks there waiting for everyone else to arrive! After all the departure time was to be at 9:45AM and the route had changes due to the flooding in the Morton and Mossy Rock Dam areas! With the route changes we were able to meet some other folks at the Super Walmart in Yelm and the Yard Birds in Centralia, before heading to our final destination the Spiffy’s Restaurant at the Exit to HWY 12 (Exit 70 off I-5)!
We left Krispy Kreme with 15 Mustangers and a couple of other BIG vehicles, just in case we ran into problems. This is amazing considering the forecast for the day was to be mixed rain and snow with temperatures at the freezing levels all over Western Washington! I guess most of us were tired of being cooped up this winter and wanted to get out of the house for the day! After all the forecast wasn’t going to be that bad for the day and I did have a goosedown jacket and gloves too!!

The stopover at the Walmart in Yelm

We arrived about an hour later at the Super Walmart in Yelm, staying there about a ½ hour so the folks that wanted to meet us there could join in the caravan to Yard Birds then on down to Spiffy’s on HWY 12! This was Mike & Rachel Lanigan’s first time at leading the caravan for Pierce County Mustang Club, Mike did a great job trying not to loose anybody and making sure we all made it through the 4-car light in the middle of Yelm was quite interesting since we were up to 19 Mustangs and about 4 other vehicles!

                                             The stopover at Yard Birds

Then it was off on HWY 507 and the backroads through Washington with snow on the trees down in that area, picture postcard shots for sure! At the stop at the Yard Birds, Jerry Murphy scored an awesome Eleanor glass lamp, it also has the Bald Eagle and the American flag etched on the glass too! Going in Jerry basement bar!

Upon getting to Spiffy’s we learned they still had the Sunday Buffet going, which turned out to be great with about 40 to 45 of us filling up their Banquet Room! Food was great there, so if any of you get down that way around Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner stop in and check them out, it was very good food for the price! Renegade members that made it to this event and had a great brunch were myself and Rob Jr. (2005 CP), Pete & Nancy Freeman (93 GT/CV), Monika Kirkland (2003 GT/CV), Bill Norman & Tanner (2000 GT/CV), Karena & Chad Peterson (2008 Roush 427R), and Lance & Sandra Smith (with a Big Truck).

Was expecting a little more Mustangers to meet us in Yelm, after all the route did go down through Thurston and Lewis counties and involved having a brunch after the cruise was complete and I know Mustangers always enjoy food on a cruise anywhere! So, I guess it was the forecast that kept folks at home, because it sure wasn’t Super Bowl weekend! I would like to end this article by saying that I hope to see more Mustangers at the St Patrick’s Poker Run Cruise on Sunday, March 15th with Pierce County Mustang Club, since it ends at the Red Wind Casino for Lunch.
